Twitter is showing its transparency by opening source all code used to recommend tweets starting March 31. This is in line with Elon Musk’s earlier promise.
The reason Elon Musk bought Twitter is that he thinks it is important for the future of civilization to have a “common digital town square where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner without resorting to violence.” He noted that at the moment society is splitting and the adherents of certain views form their own echo chambers, where only the information that corresponds to their worldview is distributed. This course of events generates tension, hatred and splits society.
That is why Musk wanted to ensure that Twitter gave equal access to all existing information, regardless of whether it corresponds to the opinion of one group or another. However, many people questioned the integrity of his intentions and repeatedly accused Musk of manipulating Twitter for his own interests, only letting go of the information that is beneficial to him.
One of the most important ways for every Twitter user to get information on the platform is through feeds. At the moment, in addition to those customizable by each user personally, Twitter offers two news feeds: Following and For you. In the Following tab, users are offered tweets and reactions to tweets from other accounts they follow. In the For You tab, Twitter recommends tweets based on the personal preferences of the users they are recommended to.
Clearly, platform-recommended tweets are a very powerful tool that can shape user opinions. That is why, to prove its integrity and show its transparency, Twitter will open source all code used to recommend tweets starting March 31, according to Musk.
Musk also explained that at the moment, the algorithm is too complex and not fully understood internally. Those who look at the code will find “many silly things” in it. However, he said that Twitter will patch issues as soon as they are found.
Musk also revealed that the platform is developing a simplified approach for serving more compelling tweets, but that it is still a work in progress. However, it will also be open source. He acknowledged that making code transparent would be “incredibly embarrassing” at first, but emphasized that it should lead to a rapid improvement in the quality of recommendations. Musk noted that the most important thing that Twitter is trying to achieve is to earn the trust of users.

Thank you 🙏 for your hard work & sharing this , so many of us are grateful that Twitter is no longer a source of lies but strives to become a beacon of truth and more and more each day it has proven that with exposing what the corrupt leaders have been doing for the past years.
