Tesla Giga Mexico will push for the creation of more data centers in the country. Although the manufacturer prefers to build its own, companies that come here for Tesla will need this infrastructure.
Tesla’s arrival in Mexico and the push for automation will put pressure not only on the automotive industry but also on data centers and telecommunications networks, said Holly Garcia, vice president of the Data Centers business unit at Panduit. She believes the company will need this infrastructure, where it can store and process information.
“Musk’s company, which electrifies and tries to automate vehicles, as well as its production processes, drive a high demand for Data Centers, since through these infrastructures it is possible to generate and store all the information of its operations,” said Garcia, according to Mexico Now.
The rise of Tesla electric vehicles on the country’s roads will also require more chargers to be installed. With the help of data centers, it will be possible to collect information from places where such sites already exist in order to make the network more efficient. In addition, cars collect a lot of information to improve Tesla’s Autopilot, so data centers are of great importance to the company, said Jorge Bleizeffer, sales manager for the north, west and pacific zone of Panduit Mexico.
“Tesla will start with electric cars, but these vehicles can also be driven autonomously, and to achieve this requires a very high connectivity and, in the end, all that information communication goes to a Data Center that becomes the heart of the back and forth of the information of companies like Tesla,” he explains.
Tesla usually relies on its own data centers. The company has data centers in the US and China. At the moment, the company’s plans to use data centers in Mexico remain unknown. Tesla built a separate data center in Shanghai due to changes in Chinese law requiring all local data to be stored only in the country. However, Tesla’s arrival in Mexico will also cause many of the companies that supply it to settle in the country as well. They will need data centers to support their operations and will likely rely on local companies.
