Tesla is committed to driving development and once again wants to help students. The company sponsors 67 student teams competing in the Formula SAE Electric competition, providing them with free batteries.
Formula SAE is a collegiate competition that requires teams to design and test a prototype formula car for the non-professional racing car market. In 2013, a new battery-powered vehicle class was added to the competition called Formula SAE Electric.
One of the participants, UMSAE Formula Electric, announced on LinkedIn that starting last week the team is officially sponsored by Tesla. The company will supply free 2170 battery cells that will be used in the next battery design. UMSAE is thrilled that its team is now officially supported by the largest electric vehicle manufacturer in the world.
160 teams from all over the world applied to participate in the competition. However, only 67 were offered sponsorship, which included UMSAE. Tesla is at the forefront of stimulating the development of talent that will then help develop better electric vehicles and other technologies that will benefit all of humanity.
