Tesla Giga Shanghai demonstrates a high rate of production ramp-up. Despite modernizing production lines and releasing the updated Model 3, the factory has already broken its delivery record for all of 2022.
According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Giga Shanghai delivered 72,115 vehicles in October. This is just 0.57 percent more than 71,704 units in the same month last year. Most likely, this is due to the fact that the factory is ramping up the production of the updated Model 3 and Y, and it will take time for it to reach higher capacity.
New data show that in the 10 months of 2023, Giga Shanghai delivered more than 771,000 vehicles. This is impressive because, during the summer months, production lines were closed a while to modernize production of the updated Model 3.
This high number of deliveries is also more than the factory was able to deliver in all of 2022. Last year, deliveries from Giga Shanghai totaled more than 710,000 units, which is about 60,000 less than what was delivered in the 10 months of 2023.
Tesla also said in its Q3 2023 financial report that, due to rising demand, production capacity at the Shanghai factory increased to 950,000 units in the third quarter from 750,000 units in the second quarter.
