Starlink Will Be Deployed in Rural Areas of Mexico

SpaceX’s Starlink won a tender from Mexico’s state-owned energy firm to provide services through December 2026. The relevant documents were reviewed by Reuters.

According to Mexico’s Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), the contract value is between 887.5 million pesos (US$51 million) and 1.8 billion pesos (US$101 million). Starlink’s proposal beat out the other two companies because it offered better terms in terms of price, as highlighted in the document. The draft contract shows that the agreement came into force in October 2023 and will last until December 31, 2026.

Another document showed that the contract would provide the infrastructure to deploy CFE’s Internet access throughout rural Mexico. Starlink will allow many people to access the internet. Today, internet access is an important part of development. With its help, we can not only stay in touch and be entertained but also receive important information and knowledge. Many people on Earth still do not have access to decent education. Therefore, it is very important to have as wide access to the internet as possible.
