Tesla Giga Berlin brings great benefits to Brandenburg, Germany. Every week, thousands of cars roll off its assembly line, directly driving the state’s economic growth.
However, the company creates a positive impact not only through the direct operations of its factory but also by helping local suppliers grow. According to rbb24 (via @Berlinergy), for example, Scharnau’s company, which produces a special adhesive tape for use in the automotive industry, added 10 jobs thanks to a collaboration with Tesla. According to the company’s managing director, about €500,000 of his company’s total annual turnover of €22 million comes from Tesla.
According to the manufacturer, it spends a total of six percent of its budget on purchases directly from Brandenburg. In addition, for normal functioning, an auto factory of this size requires many services: from a cleaning company to security, catering establishments, and transport companies. According to Tesla, up to 2,000 people from third-party companies are on site at the factory every day. Some of them also come from Brandenburg companies.
In addition, Tesla independently produces many components for its cars. This makes it possible not to purchase them outside of Brandenburg, but to produce them directly in the state, so that the added value is reflected locally.
This development of Tesla is now also reflected in the economic growth of Brandenburg. The state’s economy grew six percent in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period last year. This means that Brandenburg has left all other federal states far behind.
“We see that the automotive industry more than quadrupled its sales in the first half of 2023 to a good €5 billion. This is driving economic growth almost single-handedly,” says Benjamin Gampfer from Statistics Berlin-Brandenburg, which calculates economic growth.
