Tesla Unveils Optimus Gen 2, Showcases Human-Like Hand Actuators

Tesla is confidently moving forward in the development of a humanoid robot that will become an integral part of the future of humanity. When the company unveiled the project in 2021 and a person in a suit made weird moves, a lot of people just laughed at it. Only a few saw the potential of the idea and believed that Elon Musk would turn it into reality.

Already in 2022, the bot, named Optimus, appeared before the public for the first time. It moved slowly across the stage, waving its arms. The robot was supposed to be something that would change the world and become a core business of the company. However, many still did not believe it.

However, Tesla did not stop and continued to improve Optimus. In 2023, the company demonstrated its achievements, first in a video published in September. In it, the bot sorted items using actuators developed internally by the company. Tesla has a dedicated team that develops them. This will enable the robot to perform a wide range of tasks. In addition, Optimus moved outside and even did yoga. The company said it trains its robot using neural networks.

Now Tesla is taking the next big step and introducing a new-gen robot. The company has released a video of Optimus Gen 2 via X. The new generation of robots looks almost human-like with a defined physique and no hanging cables. All sensors are now manufactured in-house at Tesla. Hands, one of the most important elements of humanoid robots, deserve special attention. They are very precise and the robot can finely regulate the force applied to them. For example, in the video shown, Optimus took a raw chicken egg and did not crush it. According to Tesla, the Optimus Gen 2 is about 10 kilograms lighter than the first model and has better balance, which it demonstrates by squats. In addition, it should now work 30 percent faster than the previous model.
