North American supply chain solutions provider NFI announced that it is currently piloting the Tesla Semi in its daily operations. The company is one of the few, so far, that has been able to use the electric truck for its operations.
In a post on LinkedIn, NFI said that it has been testing the Tesla Semi at its facility in Patterson, CA for several weeks now. The team delivers goods on routes between 250-450 miles, supported by fast-charging infrastructure. According to the published data, “over 6,000 miles the Semi demonstrated an efficiency of 1.64kWh/mile, with 60% of those miles covered at speeds of 50mph or greater, enabling us to evaluate more sustainable solutions for our customers.”
Deliveries of the Tesla Semi began in December 2022. The first customer to receive them was PepsiCo. At the moment, it is known that the company operates a fleet of at least 86 Semis. Since then, some other major companies have started getting their electric trucks.
Tesla is trying to ramp up production of the Semi and is working to prepare a factory in Nevada to produce it. The final target capacity is 50,000 units per year, the company executives said in May. Tesla will begin high-volume production of the Semi in late 2025, but will not begin delivering the vehicles to external customers until 2026.
