Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car in August & through 2024 in Norway

Tesla Model Y continues to hold its position as Norway’s best-selling car. The compact SUV was the best-selling car in August and for the first eight months of 2024.

Norway is the most welcoming market for electric vehicles in the world. According to statistics from the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV), electric cars accounted for 94.3% of all new car registrations in the country in August. However, the Tesla Model Y made the biggest contribution, accounting for 18.8% of all EV sales in the country.

“No country in the world comes close to Norway in the electric car race,” OFV director Oyvind Solberg Thorsen said in a statement.

“If this trend continues, we will soon be on our way to achieving our goal of 100% zero-emission cars by 2025,” he said.

A total of 10,480 new electric cars were sold in Norway in August. Of these, the Model Y accounted for 2,102 sales. In second place was the Volvo EX30 with 866 units, which is 2.43 times less than the compact SUV from Tesla. In third place was the Škoda Enyaq with 778 registrations.

The total number of EVs sold in Norway since the beginning of the year was 68,435. Not surprisingly, the Tesla Model Y was the main contributor to this success. In the first 8 months of 2024, Tesla sold 10,668 Model Ys. Its closest competitor, that was the significantly lagging, Volvo EX30 with 4,737 sales. In third place was the Volkswagen ID.4 with 4,538 units sold.
